According to the police, the deceased, Ajithkumar (25) of Walajabad, was working as a labourer in the fish market. Rathi, a transperson, admitted him to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital with stab injuries on his neck on Friday.

Rathi, who lived with him in a rented house in Triplicane, initially claimed that he was injured accidentally. The police interrogated her after Ajithkumar succumbed to injures on Saturday. When she was grilled further on suspicion, she admitted to murdering him over a fight. The police said that Ajithkumar reportedly took away Rathi’s jewels and failed to return them. “When Rathi asked Ajithkumar to return the jewels, it led a quarrel between them. In a fit of rage, she stabbed on his neck with a kitchen knife,” said the police. Rathi has been remanded in judicial custody.

Soothsayer killed in drunken brawl, neighbour held

A 30-year-old man was killed by his neighbour in a drunken brawl and the police have arrested the accused in Vyasarpadi.

The deceased, Kuppusamy (30) of Gandhipuram, was a soothsayer (Kudu Kudu Pandi) and the accused, Venkatesan, was an autorickshaw driver, said the police.

Venkatesan’s wife separated from him more than a year ago. On Sunday night, the duo consumed liquor in Kuppusamy’s house during which he allegedly commented about Venkatesan’s wife. Infuriated over this, Venkatesan attacked Kuppusamy. Immediately, Kuppusamy picked up a kitchen knife from the house, but Venkatesan snatched it from him and stabbed Kuppusamy.

On hearing Kuppusamy’s cries, neighbours rushed to the spot and sent him to hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. Venkatesan was handed over to police. The police have booked a case and remanded him in judicial custody.
