Though the cyclone is not expected to make a landfall in Tamil Nadu, the Indian Meteorological Department has issued a warning asking fishermen not to venture into deep sea areas along and off Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts.

The Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai, said that the cyclone is intensifying gradually and will become a very severe cyclonic storm by Tuesday. The cyclonic storm will be extremely severe on Thursday and Friday. After moving north-westwards on Tuesday, the cyclonic storm is expected to recurve towards north-northeastwards gradually.

The ports in Ennore, Thoothukudi, Pamban, Kattupalli, Karaikal and Puducherry have issued warning signals for ships leaving the port, with signals indicating the transformation of the depression into the cyclonic storm.

There was no rainfall recorded in the State on Monday. However, the influence of the storm would bring light to moderate rainfall at a few places including Theni, Dindigul, The Nilgiris and Salem till Thursday. Heavy rain is also likely to occur at isolated places over ghat areas of The Nilgiris, Theni and Dindigul.

For next 48 hours, a few places in the State are likely to witness thunderstorm accompanied with gusty winds of about 40-50 kmph and lightning.

The city has received some respite due to partly cloudy weather, while the maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 36 degree Celsius and 28 degree Celsius.
