Malaysian citizen with US dollars arrested

When the customs were checking the passengers who were about to board a flight to Kuala Lumpur on Thursday morning, they intercepted Rayavarapu Sridevi (54), a Malaysian citizen, on suspicion. When they checked her hand baggage, the officials found US dollars worth Rs 16.7 lakh and after a body check, US dollarsworth Rs 29.75 lakh were recovered from inside her clothes. The officials seized Rs 46.45 lakh worth currencies from her and arrested Sridevi for further inquiry.

In a second incident on Wednesday night, the Customs intercepted Syed Mohammad (28) from Ramanathapuram while checking passengers who arrived fromColombo and found gold inside his rectum. The gold weighing about 100 gram, worth Rs 3.27 lakh, was seized.

In another case, the Customs seized 81 gram of gold from Syed Ibrahim (39) of Chennai checking passengers who arrived from Kuala Lumpur. He has concealed it in his rectum. The gold is worth Rs 2.65 lakh.

Syed Mohammad and Syed Ibrahim were detained for further inquiry.
