Chennai
The residents gathered on the Kancheepuram- Chengalpattu Road, alleging that the ration shops in Kancheepuram town were not functioning properly. According to them, the staff were not providing the goods regularly. Every day when they go to the shop, the employees there had been claiming that the essential items were out of stock.
The protestors claimed that for the past 10 days, the ration shop staff did not provide rice saying there was no stock. However, the cardholders had been receiving messages on their mobile phones stating that they have purchased rice. The agitators also claimed that kerosene, too, was not being supplied to them. And on top of the shortage of these essential items, the staff were forcing them to buy other products.
On information, the Kancheepuram police team arrived at the spot and tried to pacify the agitators. Later the Kancheepuram Taluk Civil Supply Officer Priya met the public and assured that the essential materials would be supplied regularly. Following that, the protestors dispersed at 12.30 pm. Due to the protest, traffic was affected on the Kancheepuram-Chengalpattu Road for nearly two hours.
