Chennai
The accused were identified as Logesh (18) and Rohit (18) from Pozhichalur and Lakshmanan (30), son of a retired Sub-Inspector from Mariamman Koil Street in Pozhichalur. The police said that Lakshmanan has several robbery and chain snatching cases against him and was using the teenagers for this. The deceased, Raja Kanna, came to Chennai in search of a job from Mayiladuthurai and was working in a food stall near Pozhichalur bus stop. On Wednesday night, around 11.30 pm, Raja was walking near Ponurangam Nagar when the teenagers on a two-wheeler intercepted him and tried to rob him at knifepoint. After realising that Raja did not have any cash on him, they tried to rob his mobile phone. In the melee, Raja suffered severe injuries and was admitted to a hospital. He died at the hospital on Friday without responding to treatments. On Monday morning, the police arrested Logesh and Rohit, following which Lakshmanan surrendered at the court.
