Alert cop nabs thief with bike near Fort rly station

Armed Reserve constable G Dhanasekaran of Esplanade police station was on a vehicle check near the railway station. Around 8 pm, he found a man riding a two-wheeler with his face half covered and avoiding CCTV cameras. After the man stopped the bike near a petrol bunk, Dhanasekaran intercepted him on suspicion and sought the vehicle documents. “The fellow pretended not to hear anything at first and later started to run, leaving the bike behind. He hopped on another bike which was waiting a few metres away and both fled the spot,” noted Dhanasekaran.

Dhanasekaran verified the vehicle documents and found that it belonged to one Purushothaman of Adyar. When contacted, Purushothaman informed him that he lost his bike a week ago and had lodged a complaint at Shastri Nagar police station.

“He has been confirmed as the actual owner and the two-wheeler will be handed over to him on Tuesday,” he said. He has requested CCTV footage from Flower Bazaar police station to identify the thieves.

In another incident that occurred in March, Dhanasekaran found an abandoned two-wheeler and found that it was stolen from Washermanpet. The owner, Syed Basha was traced and his bike was handed over.

Dhanasekaran said he is on a mission to trace the owners of abandoned vehicles. He has placed sign boards to warn offenders in Esplanade police station limits. “The happiness I see when victims happy after receiving their lost vehicles makes me want to do more. Without the support of my Inspector Gunavarman, I would not have been able to carry out such initiatives,” he said.
