Man held for murder of younger brother in Kayar
A 32-year-old man was arrested for murdering his younger brother while the latter tried to attack their mother under the influence of alcohol in Kayar on Saturday night.

The deceased Sivakumar (30) and the arrested one Ilangovan (32), were from Vembedu village. Police said that Sivakumar, who was addicted to liquor, often quarrelled with his mother Muniammal (57), a widow.
On Saturday night too, Siva Kumar tried to hit Muniammal under the influence of alcohol and Ilangovan confronted him. In the melee that ensued, Ilangovan took a sickle and hacked Siva Kumar. Siva Kumar fell unconscious in a pool of blood.
Immediately the shocked Ilangovan called a 108 ambulance. Meanwhile, the neighbours who heard the cries of Sivakumar rushed to their home and found Sivakumar lying in a pool of blood. The neighbours alerted Kayar police station that Sivakumarhas been killed.
A team led by sub-inspector Suseela rushed to the spot and sent Sivakumar’s body to Chengalpattu Government Hospital for post-mortem. Ilangovan was arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
Police said that Muniammal’s husband died only a few months ago and she stayed with her two sons. “The duo has two elder sisters and a younger sister and all of them were married off. While Ilangovan met with an accident recently, Sivakumar, who worked as daily wage labourer, came home drunk every day and verbally abused Muniammal,” said police.
Machete seized from 2 history-sheeters
Vyasarpadi police arrested two history-sheeters in possession of weapons. Police on patrol near Samanthipoo Colony on Saturday night secured two persons on suspicion as they were found loitering in the locality. A search on them led to the seizure of a machete, which they had been hiding. Investigation revealed the two - identified as P Saranraj (30) and N Karthik (30) of the same locality - are history-sheeters. The duo had been planning to indulge in various robberies in the area. However, police remanded the nabbed history-sheeters into judicial custodyon Sunday.
