Serial burglar arrested in Mambalam, gold and car seized

The accused K Manikkam (56) alias Malar Mannan of Aruppukottai, has 50 house-breaking related cases pending against him, and has been detained eight times under Goondas Act. Police said that Malar Mannan had targeted locked houses and shops in the recent past in areas including Mambalam, Kodambakkam, Pondy Bazaar, Teynampet, Vadapalani, MGR Nagar, Peerkankaranai and Selaiyur and burgled them.

Apart from the gold and car, 1.5 kg of silver articles, two cameras and a laptop were also seized from him. Following several complaints of house-breaking thefts, a special team was formed to nab Malar Mannan. Speaking to DTNext, Inspector Sampath said that Malar Mannan is a serial burglar. “Since he admits to his crime every time he is arrested, he is released from prison in a year,” Sampath said. Malar Mannan had bought the seized car for his personal use. He was remanded to judicial custody on Tuesday.
