4-member burglary gang nabbed
A four-member gang of burglars, including two women, was nabbed by the Madhavaram Milk Colony police, who recovered 130 sovereign jewels from them. The thieves are suspected to be involved in dozens of cases reported in Chennai and Bengaluru, police said.

The accused were identified as V Dinakaran (33) of Tirunelveli district, G Mohan (54) of Ernavur, and Rani and Mariamma of Old Washermanpet. Police said that Mariamma is Dinakaran’s mother-in-law.
Explaining their modus operandi, police said the women would go on recce during daytime in search of houses that are locked, while the men would carry out the burglary in the night hours.
The Madhavaram Milk Colony police had launched a hunt for the gang after a burglary was reported in their jurisdiction, in which 62 sovereigns were burgled from the house of K Ashok Kumar in Ajeez Nagar in Madhavaram on January 18. Two months on, the police managed to nab them on Saturday and seized 130 sovereigns from them. Other than the gold stolen from Madhavaram, the remaining jewels have been handed over to Peravallur police, as there are burglary cases registered against the gang in that station.
According to police, Dinakaran and Mohan are accused in more than 80 house-breaking cases in the city as well as Bengaluru, and have previously been detained under the Goondas Act. Meanwhile, the ICF police have arrested three men in connection with a series of robberies in the locality. Two mobile phones and a bike were seized from the accused, identified as Selvakumar (20), Ganesan (21) and Vijayakumar (20) of Korattur.
A special team led by inspector Kameshwari nabbed the trio. Investigation revealed that they robbed mobile phones in Pondy Bazaar and sold them. Among them, Ganesan is a history-sheeter at Kodungaiyur and Korattur police stations with several snatching cases pending against him.
