“We have been encouraging and allowing corporates and NGOs to maintain the parks built by the Corporation. Following this, we have decided to hand over the maintenance of the sensory park to Appaswamy Real Estate Ltd,” the official said.
The civic body had constructed the sensory park under Smart City Mission on an area of 1,500 sqm. The park that was constructed at Rs 1.3 crore has facilities for children with special needs and visually impaired.
“The maintenance of the park will cost Rs 5 lakh per year for the civic body. As the real estate firm is going to maintain the park, we will save the money. They will maintain the park for a period of one year,” the official added.
Meanwhile, the civic body had already handed over the maintenance works of Traffic Park near Napier Bridge to Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India company. “Apart from maintaining the Traffic Park, Honda also conducts training for children on traffic rules,” the official added.
