The police said that the deceased S Pandian (45), resident of Kumaran Nagar at Padi, was the deputy secretary of the engineering wing of the DMDK. He was also a realtor and lived with his wife and three sons.
Around 9 am, he was on the way home on a two-wheeler from Anna Nagar West Extension. “When he was near the Srinivasa Nagar wine shop, a four-member gang intercepted Pandian and picked up an argument. As the tension escalated, the gang took out the weapons and started attacking him,” said the police.
The gang attacked Pandian using cricket bats and machetes, left him in a pool of blood and fled the spot in on their bikes.
On information, the Korattur police sent the body to Kilpauk Medical college and Hospital for autopsy. A case has been registered and special teams have been formed to nab the suspects.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Pandian had not paid commission to some agents who helped him settle land dispute. The police suspect that the upset agents might have sent goons to eliminate him.
