2 chain-snatching gangs nabbed, jewels recovered
Two chain-snatching gangs that targeted women walking alone on roads were nabbed and more than 39 sovereigns and two bikes were recovered from them.

Among the accused, N Pandiaraj (33) and A Guru (34) alias Gavaskar from Madurai, are history-sheeters with more than 30 cases pending against them in the city. They have previously been detained under the Goondas Act as well, said the police.
They were involved in several snatching incidents in Red Hills, Kolathur, Ambattur, Rajamangalam, Madhavaram and Choolaimedu. As much as 27.75 sovereigns and a two-wheeler were recovered from them. They were arrested with the help of CCTV footage when they tried to escape after snatching a four-sovereign chain from a 62-year-old woman at Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar. Similarly, the Madhavaram Milk Colony police arrested two chain snatchers and recovered 11.50 sovereigns. The accused, T Raji (32) of Ernavur and B Mamani (33) alias Dheena of Ernavur, are history-sheeters in New Washermanpet and Manali police station limits. The duo snatched a chain from woman pedestrian on March 6, said the police. All four were remanded in judicial custody.
