DSP Kader Batcha arrested again by Idol Wing
The Idol Wing sleuths on Thursday arrested DSP Kader Batcha for the second time in connection with an idol theft case. While working as inspector in the wing, he had allegedly concealed information after taking bribe from smugglers, thus preventing the apprehension the international idol smuggler Subhash Chandra Kapoor a decade ago.

Batcha was arrested from his friend’s residence in Guindy on Thursday. On Friday, Batcha was produced before a special court in Kumbakonam, which remanded him in Tiruchy central prison.
Thirteen idols, worth Rs 24 crore, were stolen from Shri Narumpoonatha Swamy Temple in Tirunelveli in 2005. Subsequently, nine of them were recovered, while the rest four were sold to Kapoor, who fixed a price of Rs 15 crore for the Lord Nataraja idol. After the issue rocked the State, Kapoor decided to return the stolen idols.
Batcha, and DSPs Jeevanandham and Mohammad Kasif had allegedly taken bribe from idol smuggler Dheenadayalan and allowed him to keep the four idols in his art gallery in Alwarpet.
Idol Wing CID alleged that its request to include the three DSPs the chargesheet have been kept pending for approval at State Home Secretary Niranjan Mardi’s office the past four months.
Batcha was earlier arrested in 2017 for allegedly robbing three idols at gun point.
