The CISF oversees the entry and exit of persons entering the Madras High Court within the same complex while the security for the lower courts housed within the Court complex, including family courts, comes under the preview of the State police. Visitors and litigants are usually subjected to full body screening and the contents in their bags are also checked.

The security team seizes any object which are believed to be potentially harmful. It is not clear how Saravanan had managed to carry the knife which he used to stab his wife. Entry into the Madras High Court is presently restricted to those litigants, lawyers and media personnel, who are in possession of entry passes.

Krishnamurthy, one of the lawyers who witnessed the incident, noted that the number of divorce cases had been steadily increasing in the family court. There are eight family courts but posts of three judges are vacant.  So, it is difficult to conclude cases quickly.
