Meet Diya, 4-year-old flag expert
How many of you know the capital of Papua New Guinea or Nauru? Well, you couldn’t give an answer without checking the internet. But Diya, a 4-year-old kid from Gerugambakkam, can easily recite 200 countries with their flags and capitals.

She has become the youngest girl in the country to achieve this feat. Diya’s talents were identified at the tender age of one. “We got flashcards from Higginbothams for my brother’s kids to play and one fine day we showed Diya cards of four countries — India, Japan, Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Next day, from a bunch of cards, she picked those four countries and showed them to me. I was surprised by her memory power andunderstood that she has some special talent,” says Thirunavukarasu P, Diya’s father.
By the time Diya was two years old, she started identifying 40 countries and their flags. “She has a great grasping power and whatever we say or show once, Diya memorises it easily. We thought of teaching her something more interesting and added the capitals. By the time she was four years old, Diya could recite 200 countries with their flags and capitals and also vice versa by telling capitals and then recognising the countries. Now, she has also started identifying the border shapes of the countries in the globe. She is also able to solve the puzzle map of both world maps and India maps,” shares the proud father.
Diya’s talent was identified by High Range Book of World Records. “She is now learning about the currency, national animals and birds of all the 200 countries in the world.”
