Cement-laden lorry goes up in flames
A lorry loaded with cement bags went up in flames near Tambaram on Wednesday. The fire was put out within 15 minutes and no one was hurt.

The lorry was on the way to a hardware shop to unload the cement when it went up in flames around 1.30 pm. Passers-by noticed the incident and alerted Tambaram Fire and Rescue station. As the nearest Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services (TNFRS) office was 1.45 km away, the public began to douse the fire. The residents said that this was the fifth fire accident in the locality in the past two months.
They also added that the Fire and Rescueteam arrived after the fire was put off each time.
TNFRS officials said that their truck has been in service for one month and thay have to take the fire engine from Tambaram TNFRS Training Centre during emergencies.
