Woman stages molestation drama to escape marriage
A 28-year-old woman from Avadi, who was not happy with the marriage arranged by her parents, allegedly staged a drama saying that a four-member gang molested her on the sands of Marina on Wednesday evening. She hoped that the groom would refuse to marry her after hearing about the incident, sources said.

The police were on their toes after an alert about a commotion on the beach opposite to the Vivekananda House. A woman was shouting at the people gathered around her and said that somebody tried to molest her. The dress she was wearing was torn in a few places. She even ran towards the sea and said that she wanted to commit suicide.
A police team, which reached the spot, took her to a government hospital in Triplicane for medical check-up and also informed her father, a CRPF man. Initially, she alleged that four men tried to misbehave with her at the beach.
During further investigation, the police found that the woman was depressed and also under treatment. Her family was looking for a groom for her. Recently, they found a suitable match and fixed the wedding in June. While the family was preparing for the wedding, the woman was not happy with it.
“It was not clear if she was in love with someone else. She did not want to get married. So, she struck an idea to avoid marriage. She staged a drama saying that a gang had molested her at the Marina beach so that her fiancé hearing of the incident, would reject the proposal,” the police sources said. After being informed by the police, her father reached the hospital and took her home. The police did not file a complaint regarding the incident, said sources.
