Man killed in a case of mistaken identity

A 21-year-old car driver, who had gone to attend a marriage near Mangadu, was murdered after a bike borne duo mistook him for a person who was harassing a relative of one of them. The two-member gang on bike attacked the victim, Dinesh, with sickles on March 2. He succumbed to the injuries at a hospital on Thursday without responding to the treatment.

Police arrested the two suspects, who said they had planned to kill a person named Thiyagu, but failed to identify Dinesh because of darkness.

Dinesh had gone to Kolapakkam to attend a marriage. When he was standing near the hall after the wedding, he was attacked by the two on bike. He was admitted to a hospital where he died on Thursday.

Police zeroed in on the suspects – Prasanna Nath (19), of Nerkundram and Udayachandar (22) of Irumbaliyur – with the help of CCTV footage. “They were arrested for attempt to murder. But after the death of victim, the case is being altered to a murder case,” police said.
