The accident happened at 11.30 pm on Wednesday on one of the arms of the Kathipara flyover that leads to Tambaram, when a vehicle hit on another from behind. Based on an alert to traffic control, a team from Guindy traffic investigation reached the spot.
Police found that Arun Nagarajan (54) from IDPL Colony, Nandambakkam, the one who caused the accident, was drunk. When they searched his vehicle, the cops found a gun, and immediately seized it and the vehicle. The case was then handed over to the Guindy Law and Order wing for further inquiry.
Arun reportedly tried to drop names of his contacts in city police, but was taken to the station. Later, however, the police found that it was only an airgun, which does not require a licence. “We have booked him only for drunken driving and not for possession of arms. He was allowed to go on Thursday morning,” police said.
