Now, app for cops to track supplies in their canteen
Kavalar angadi, a new smartphone app launched on Tuesday for police personnel will help them prepare a list of things that they want to purchase before going to their canteen. As many as 1.6 lakh serving and retired police personnel will benefit from the app.

All the 50 police canteens functioning in all district headquarters, 15 police battalions, and Tamil Nadu Police Academy are linked to the app. It was launched by State police chief TK Rajendran. A centralised billing system has also been put in place for smooth functioning of the app.
The functions of the mobile application and website www.tnpolicecanteen.com will be periodically enhanced to facilitate the beneficiaries in a better manner, said P Thamaraikannan, Additional Director General of Police (Welfare) said.
“We will be working towards making it as a business app aiming a better delivery. There will be upgradation at least once in every three months,” he noted.
Serving and retired uniformed personnel along with ministerial staff of the Police Department, Fire and Rescue Services Department, Prison Department and Forest Department are beneficiaries of the scheme.
At present nearly 10,000 products such as consumer durables, household articles, electric and electronic articles besides groceries are provided at cheaper rates to the beneficiaries.
Presently, the beneficiaries should visit the police canteens directly to know the price and availability of the goods. The app can be downloaded from the website, Google play store from Tuesday and App Store from next week onwards.
