According to the Tiruvallur police, who are investigating the case, the suspect Kumar (name changed) was running a mobile phone sales shop in Arani.
After marriage, Kumar visited his wife’s house often in the last two weeks. Whenever he was there, he was seen interacting with the girl in a friendly manner. She was also talking to him without any inhibitions.
On Friday, the girl did not return from the school. After searching for her in the neighbourhood and enquiring at the school, the girl’s father filed a complaint with the Tiruvallur police later in the day.
During investigation, the police found that Kumar had picked up the girl from the school.
He reportedly took her to his shop and sexually assaulted her.
When the police came to know that the girl was last seen with Kumar, they nabbed and interrogated him. He had reportedly confessed to the crime.
Following this, the girl was rescued from his shop and sent for medical examination.
He was arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and remanded in judicial custody by a court in Ponneri. Subsequently, he was lodged in Puzhal Central Prison.
