State govt to take steps to publish board exam results on time
The State government is taking measures to publish board exams results for classes 10-12 within the stipulated time this year by implementing an effective evaluation process, officials said.

To facilitate this, more teachers would be involved in correcting answer sheets. In addition, compiling of student’s marks data would be updated periodically so that results could be published on time.
A senior official from the Directorate of Examinations pointed out that in order to prevent impersonation by the candidates, this time students were provided an answer sheet that contained their photograph. “This enabled the hall supervisor and other officials on duty to identify the candidate,” he said. This part of the top sheet that contains candidate’s identity is detached in the examination centre itself and remaining part with bar coded information alone is sent for evaluation.
Stating that the new process of sending answer sheets for evaluation would require only few days, the official said unlike earlier, this time the correction process would start once the examination is over. “In addition, more teachers will be deployed at the multi-layer level during evaluation process. Therefore, all the work will be over by first week of May,” he said.
According to him, the results were delayed in the past due to answer sheets data not being updated on time. “However, this time the authorities will ensure all the evaluation details are stored in the main server once the answer sheet is corrected,” he said.
Adding that a secure system would be adopted to transport answer script bundles from the examination centres and hand them over at the collection points using a special vehicle, the official expressed confidence that the new system would ensure safe transportation of answer scripts on time.
Govt likely to conduct engg counselling through DoTE
As the counselling for the engineering students at Anna University is at stake after MK Surappa resigned from the post of chairman of Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) and Tamil Nadu Common Admissions (TANCA) panel, the State government is preparing to conduct the admission process at the Department of Technical Education (DoTE) premises from next academic year. Anna University has been conducting engineering counselling for more than two decades until online counselling was introduced in 2018-19. However, Anna University V-C Surappa resigned from the post of chairman of TNEA and TANCA after Higher Education Department made changes in the counselling panel without his knowledge. Following this, the government is studying the feasibility of conducting engineering counselling through DoTE from the next academic year. Accordingly, K Vivekanandan, DoTE Commissioner, is likely to be appointed as TNEA and TANCA chairman in place of Surappa. “Though there are certain issues with Anna University, the counselling will not be disturbed, and it will be conducted as per the schedule,” said a senior official at the Higher Education Department.
