The victim, Banumathi (55) from Virudhachalam, had borrowed Rs 8.64 lakh from her daughter for construction of a house a few months ago. On Thursday morning, she boarded from Virudhachalam with the money to return it to her daughter. After getting down in Perungalathur around 6.30 pm, she took an MTC bus to Medavakkam. From there, a relative picked up her on a two-wheeler and reached Kovilambakkam around 8.30 pm.
After reaching home, Banumathi noticed that the cash kept between the clothes were missing. Immediately, she filed a complaint with the Pallikaranai police. After an inquiry, the police said that Banumathi kept her bag in the shelf above her seat and got down at two places to have tea. They suspect that the cash might have been stolen during that time.
