While thefts in moving trains are often reported in the city, DMK whip fell prey to miscreants in the latest incident.
Chennai
He lost Rs 1 lakh, two one-sovereign gold rings and a mobile phone while travelling from Madurai to Chennai on Pandian Express, said sources.
Sakkarapani, an MLA from Oddanchatram and DMK whip, was on his way to Chennai on Pandian Express from Madurai for a party-related work when the incident took place. He was travelling in the D coupe of first-class AC compartment along with two other friends, said the police.
In the wee hours of Tuesday, he woke up and found his bag missing. He rushed out of the coupe and found it lying on the pathway. However, Rs 1 lakh cash in the bag and the two rings he had kept on the table and one of his two mobile phones were missing.
After informing the TTE about the incident, he lodged a complaint with the Egmore railway police on Tuesday morning after the train reached the city. An FIR has been registered and the police are trying to identify the suspects. Speaking to DT Next, Sakkarapani said that the lock of coupe was damaged because of which he couldn’t close it properly. “All three of us were asleep when the incident happened. The police have assured that the suspects will be nabbed soon,” he added.
