Tamil Nadu government has decided to upgrade computer instructors at the State-run schools as per the norms set by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) regulations.

The NCTE has prescribed the minimum qualification for teachers: those recruited as teachers in senior secondary and intermediate for classes should have post-graduation degrees and should also possess B.Ed degree from a NCTE-recognised institution.

A senior official from the Directorate of School Education said that the government has decided to follow this norm while filling the computer instructor vacancies at government schools. The official said of the 2,689 computer instructor posts that have been sanctioned for higher secondary schools, 814 posts are lying vacant now.

The existing computer instructors would be re-designated as computer instructors grade I if they have eight years of service in the present post and possess the required minimum educational qualification.

From now on, these vacancies would be filled up only through direct recruitment by Tamil Nadu Teachers Recruitment Board. As the pay scale of the computer instructors is expected to change, necessary additional funds will be provided Final Modified Appropriation 2018-19.
