A division bench comprising Justice S Manikumar and Justice Subramonium Prasad dismissed the plea after recording the submission from the government advocate that the police had closed the case based on the apology tendered by the college acknowledging the lapse and the hurt the exhibition had caused.

The petitioner Damodaran had contended that in the exhibition held on January 19 and 20 various paintings were placed depicting the Hindu Gods in bad light in general and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in particular in a bid to trigger communal tension between Hindus and Christians.

Based on this, the plea sought the court to direct the police to initiate criminal action against the Principal for allowing display of such paintings on its campus and action against students who drew such controversial paintings.
