Rahul Jain (34), a resident of Millers Road in Kilpauk, runs a showroom of silver articles in Sowcarpet. He had set aside 570 grams of gold and 120 grams of diamond, worth Rs 25 lakh, for his sister’s marriage which was held in Rajasthan recently. He had packed the jewels and went to Rajasthan by train a week ago only to find it missing.

Upon his return to Chennai on Friday, he lodged a complaint alleging that his domestic worker might have robbed the jewels as she had seen him packing the jewels. The police after interrogating the woman have concluded that she has not stolen the jewels.

The CCTV footage retrieved from Chennai Central railway station showed that Rahul Jain had boarded the train with his luggage. Police suspect that he might have either lost it in transit, or have been stolen in the train.

The Kilpauk police said that Rahul Jain’s complaint would be forwarded to the Railway Police and he would be directed to lodge a separate complaint at Chennai Central.

In a similar complaint in Tiruverkadu, one Viswanathan from Mel Ayanambakkam has lodged a complaint that 15 sovereigns have vanished from his house under mysterious circumstances. The Tiruverkadu police have registered a case and further inquiries are on.
