3-month-old infant falls to death from moving auto
A three-month-old boy died within a few hours after he fell from an auto-rickshaw in Ayanavaram on Friday. The baby slipped from his mother’s hands and fell when the driver swerved to avoid hitting a motorbike.

The police said that the child’s father Velan (42) of Sidco Nagar in Villivakkam drove the auto-rickshaw. Archana, Velan’s wife, was sitting behind with Yogesh Raj, their three-month-old child.
The couple were travelling to the Archana’s house from Teynampet when the accident took place around 10 pm on CTH road near Tagore Nagar.
Sources said that a two-wheeler rider skidded in front of the auto and fell on the road. In a bid to avoid hitting him, Velan suddenly turned the auto and the baby slipped and fell through the opening of the auto where Archana was seated.
Passers-by, who witnessed the accident, rushed him to a nearby hospital. He was then transferred to the Institute of Child Heath in Egmore where he succumbed to the injuries in the wee hours of Saturday.
On Information, the Anna Nagar traffic investigation police have registered a case and booked Velan under Section 304A (causing death due to negligence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Further investigation is on.
