Srinivasan, a resident of Govindaraj Nagar in Adyar, was working as a lineman at the Madipakkam sub-station. On Monday around 10.30 am, Srinivasan climbed up an electricity post on St Thomas Mount–Medavakkam Road near Madipakkam after turning off the transformer.Â
When Srinivasan touched a cable after climbing the post, he suffered electric shock and became unconscious. As Srinivasan had a rope tied to his boy, he did not fall. The public, who noticed this, informed the TNEB and the Madipakkam police station.
Following this, the people rescued him by placing a ladder on the lorry. Later, Tangedco officials arrived at the spot and took him to a nearby private hospital.Â
When the local residents questioned the EB staff how he suffered a shock despite turning off the power supply, they said there could have been a reverse current and Srinivasan should have waited for 10 minutes before starting the work. The residents claimed that poor earthing was the reason for the incident. The Madipakkam police have registered a case and are investigating.
