Aadhaar centre in Adyar tests public’s patience
Technical snag at an Aadhaar centre in Adyar kept the public waiting for hours on Saturday.
Chennai
Shanthi P, a resident of Indra Nagar, had arrived at the Aadhaar Enrolment Centre in Bhaktavatsalam Nagar in Adyar early on Saturday morning to ensure she was ahead of the queue to receive her token for issuance. However, after nearly a two-hour wait, she was shocked to discover that the server at the centre was down.
“I have been coming to this centre for four consecutive days to get the ID issued. However, I was sent back home every day by being told to get additional documents. Hoping to get it done latest by Saturday, I arrived early, only to be told that the server is down – that, too, after waiting for more than two hours,” she said. Shanthi was one among more than 50 people who returned disappointed on Saturday morning.
“We were told that tokens will be distributed between 9.45 and 10.30 am. However, the staff arrived only after 10.15 am,” said Raj K, a resident of Adyar. A staff at the centre said, “We were informed about this only last evening and were unable to inform the public.”
Apologising for the inconvenience, an official said, “There has been some technical snag which we are hoping to resolve latest by Tuesday. It has been reported from centres across the city.
Besides, post offices and banks issuing Aadhaar were affected. We have informed the public that we will be reopen on Wednesday.”
