Youth gets death sentence for rape, murder of teen girl
A man who raped and murdered a 14-year-old girl in 2017 was sentenced to death by the Chengalpattu Mahila court on Friday.

The accused was identified as L Ashok Kumar (24), a resident of Alathur village near Tiruporur in Kancheepuram district. He was an employee of a private firm. Police said Ashok Kumar used to follow his victim regularly when she is returning home from her school.
The girl from Tirunelveli was staying with her mother and an elder brother and sister. On July 23, when she was alone at house, Ashok went in and raped the girl. When she shouted for help, he took a knife from the house and slit her throat, and escaped from the spot.
The Tiruporur police arrested Ashok Kumar on the same day with the help of sniffer dog. Police said he had consumed liquor at the time of the incident. The case was being heard by the Chengalpattu Mahila court. After finishing the process, the judge on Friday found Ashok Kumar guilty of rape and murder. He was sentenced to death, and also slapped with a fine of Rs 25,000.
