Teen tries to stop friend’s suicide bid, dies
A teenager, who tried to prevent his friend from killing self by jumping in front of a speeding train, died after being knocked down by the train.

Upset over this, the other boy jumped from the bridge and injured himself. The incident happened at Ponneri in neighbouring Tiruvallur on Thursday night.
The deceased youth was identified as Venkatesh, a 19-year-old daily wage worker and resident of Thayuman Chetty Street, Ponneri. Venkatesh, along with his friend Aravind, had attended their friend’s marriage on Thursday. They were returning home after the marriage on Thursday night when the incident happened. According to police, a quarrel erupted between the two, following which Aravind reportedly stood on the track and threatened to kill himself by jumping in front of speeding train on the Ponneri rail bridge. Seeing this, Venkatesh started to run on the track in an attempt to save his friend. This led to Venkatesh being hit by a moving train, killing him on the spot, police said.
Shocked by the turn of events, Aravind jumped from the bridge and injured himself. He has been admitted to Government Stanley Medical College hospital where he is undergoing treatment. Police sources said they were corroborating the different versions of the incident.
