    Singapore beckons Corpn school students

    In a rare opportunity to the underprivileged students studying in the Chennai Corporation schools, the Greater Chennai Corporation has made arrangements to take them on an educational tour to Singapore.

    According to Chennai Corporation Commissioner D Karthikeyan, as many as 32 students of various Chennai Corporation schools have been selected after conducting a science competition among the students of the Corporation schools under ‘Wings to fly’ programme.


    The civic body, along with the Rotary Club Madras East and Foundation for Vocational Training, has been conducting the programme from 2016. In 2016, the Corporation school students were taken to Malaysia and in 2017, students were taken to Germany. The students had visited NASA in the USA in 2018.


    “The 32 students have been selected after a science competition in which nearly 7,000 students participated. As many as 280 students entered the final round of the competition, out of which 32 students have been selected,” a Chennai Corporation press release said.


    Meanwhile, Karthikeyan, in an event held on Friday, handed over certificates to the 32 students and others, who took part inthe competition.


    The Rotary Club Madras East and Foundation for Vocational Training handed over Rs. 10 lakh to Karthikeyan to run the two residential schools that is run by the civic body, the release added.
