The deceased was identified as V Jayakumar, a resident of Pulipakkam near Chengalpattu. After completing diploma, he was searching for a job. The Chengalpattu taluk police arrested him in connection with a group clash three months ago.

Recently, he was released on bail. However, the relatives said that the police officers used to call him for inquiry and make him sit in the police station for the whole day often.

On Tuesday, they threatened to cancel his bail. Even after he came home, the officers called him over phone and threatened him, alleged the relatives. Upset over this, he committed suicide on Wednesday. Infuriated, his relatives and friends staged a road roko and demanded action against the police officers.

The Chengalpattu DSP and tahsildar went to the spot, pacified the agitators and asked relatives to file a complaint. Due to the protest, traffic was affected for more than one hour on the stretch.
