Chennai
The deceased was identified as Vinayak Moorthy, a resident of New Perungalathur. On Tuesday morning, Vinayak Moorthy boarded an EMU train towards beach at Perungalathur railway station. The police said the elderly man was travelling on footboard as the train was overcrowded. He lost his grip and fell down on the platform when the train began to move. Vinayak Moorthy died on the spot with severe head injuries. The Tambaram Railway police, who arrived at the spot, sent the body for post-mortem examination to Chromepet Government Hospital. Tambaram railway police have registered a case.
After seven people travelling on EMUs were killed in back-to-back mishaps in July, the Southern Railway created awareness against footboard travel.Â
