Nigerian held with cocaine, ketamine on ECR
Sleuths from Narcotics Intelligence Bureau (NIB) arrested a Nigerian with cocaine and ketamine worth Rs 6 lakh in Neelankarai on East Coast Road (ECR) on Sunday.

He was selling drugs to college students, software professionals and guests staying in resorts in Neelankarai and other parts of ECR. The arrested person was identified as Ikechukwu (36) and the sleuths claimed that they had seized six grams of cocaine and 100 grams of ketamine from him.
During the inquiry, Ikechukwu claimed that he came to India on a medical visa and was treated for a pancreas related problem at a hospital in 2015. However, investigators found that he didn’t have any travel documents or any other papers to justify hisclaims. Reportedly, hetold the police that he had lost all his documents.
Following this, the NIB-CID officers verified with the immigration officials in the Chennai airport and confirmed that he arrived in the city in 2015. Then, he went to Tiruppur, where he was involved in apparel export business along with a few other Nigerian nationals.
For the past three months, he has been involved in peddling drugs in the city. He used to bring the contraband from Goa and had about50-60 regular customers who were drug addicts, said sources.
Ikechukwu targeted software engineers and college students who would often party at resorts and star hotels in the outskirts of the city. After developing contacts, he started supplyingdrugs to them regularly.
The NIB-CID sleuths have registered a case and arrested the Nigerian under Section 14 of the Foreigners Act apart from the possession of drugs under the Sections 8 (c) read with 22 (b) of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. He was produced before a magistrate court and has been remanded in judicial custody.
