Gold, duplicate watches and sunglasses seized
Customs officials seized gold, duplicate watches and sunglasses from two passengers at Chennai airport on Wednesday.

The Customs officials were checking the passengers who arrived from Kuala Lumpur around 11.30 am. When they checked the suitcase of Sultan (35) and his friend from Chennai, the officials found that both had hidden 620 watches and 240 sunglasses inside secret chambers in the bags. After seizing the good, the officials took them to separate rooms for body search based on suspicion. They found the duo had hidden nearly 300 grams of gold each inside their rectum. The officials seized the gold and goods worth Rs 20 lakh and detained the two for further inquiry.
Meanwhile, a minor fire near the motor room at the airport created a flutter on Thursday. There were no casualties, said officials. Around 2.30 am, the wood waste kept near the motor room at the Chennai airport caught fire. The staff altered the Fire Service officials at the airport and two fire engines rushed to the spot and doused the fire. The airport police are investigating the reason for the fire.
