JCP office at Egmore turns people-friendly
In a welcome initiative, Joint Commissioner (East) of city police has asked all his officers from the rank of inspectors whose offices are not on the ground floor to come down to meet those petitioners who have difficulty in climbing.
Chennai
“Those like the elderly and differently abled who have difficulty in climbing the stairs can wait near the reception where the officers would meet them, “ said V Balakrishnan, one of the four Law and Order Joint Commissioners in the city. He has asked all Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners and inspectors from his jurisdiction to ensure that the new guidelines were followed.
Though his jurisdiction covers only one fourth of the police commissionerate, the initiative is expected to be a great relief to many who approach police stations to meet officials. Also, as most government offices in the State are not friendly for the differently-abled persons and also the senior citizens, this move would help improve the image of the police force.
Many times, sub-ordinates at the reception may not inform the officers about the difficulties faced by the visitors when they are told to climb upstairs. Now, a notice posted in front of the Joint Commissioner’s office in Egmore informs visitors that elders, those with infants and the differently abled persons who come to meet the JC need not climb up the stairs to meet the officer. Instead, the joint commissioner would come down to meet such visitors, reads the notice.
