Three men held for sexual abuse of minors
Three men were arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for misbehaving with girls in separate incidents in the city.

A 59-year-old watchman was arrested for sexually abusing a nine-year-old girl in Foreshore estate. The accused, Devaraj, was working as a watchman in a housing board quarters and was staying with his wife and son in the premises. Devaraj, who was alone at his house, spotted the neighbour girl playing with water on the terrace. He offered her a towel, took her to his house and molest her.
He also threatened her to remain silent. However, when she saw him at a bus stop while returning from school on Monday, she informed her sister about the incident who in turned told her parents. Following this, Devaraj was nabbed and handed over to the police.
Meanwhile, Manikandan (34) was arrested by the police for flashing in front of two children, aged 6 and 4, who were playing on the road in Ramapuram. Neighbours nabbed the man after the children raised an alarm, the police said.
In yet another incident, Lakshmanan (20), a flower vendor from Barath Nagar in Selaiyur, was arrested for sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl on Monday.Â
The girl from the same locality was playing outside the house after returning home from school while her parents, who were also flower vendors, were at the shop. Lakshmanan lured the girl inside an auto-rickshaw, which was parked at the street corner, with a chocolate and misbehaved with her.
Later in the night, the girl narrated the incident to her parents. Her parents, along with the neighbours, caught Lakshmanan and trashed him before handing him to the Selaiyur police. On Tuesday morning, he was handed over to Tambaram all-women police.Â
