Held with forged cheque, man sprays chemical on bank manager’s face
A 30-year-old man, who allegedly sprayed a chemical substance on a bank manager’s face on Anna Salai after the official found that he was trying to forge a cheque, was caught by the public after his bike met with an accident while he tried to flee on Saturday.

However, his associate managed to escape from the spot. The police identified the man as Venkatesh, hailing from Bengaluru. The police said that the incident happened around 12.30 pm when the manger Rajavelu (56) was on duty. At that time, Venkatesh along with his friend Rajiv Shetty came with a cheque for Rs 96,500 and handed it over to Rajavelu.
The manager, who checked the cheque, grew suspicious as the cash amount written was altered. After ensuring that the two men were trying to cheat the bank, he questioned them.

Rajavelu, who suffered irritation in the eyes, raised alarm to catch them. Following this, a few customers and bank employees chased the duo. By then, Venkatesh and Rajiv started driving their two-wheeler that was parked outside the bank and tried toescape. However, they crashed their bike intoanother two-wheeler and fell down a fewmetres away.
While Rajiv managed to run away, the bank staff and others overpowered Venkatesh and bashed him up. Then, he was handed over to the police.
The police after the preliminary inquiry said that he stole the cheque from a private courier firm and tried to pass it. While he was remanded in judicial custody after being produced in the court, the police have launched a hunt for his associate.
