Suburban train services from Moore Market Complex (MMC) were disrupted for around an hour owing to a fire near the signal outside the station on Sunday afternoon.

Though the cause of the fire has yet to be established, railway sources in the know said that someone had set fire to the bushes near the “out signal”, which resulted in suspension of services for nearly an hour from 2.45pm.
Trains bound for Arakkonam and Gummidipoondi from MMC were suspended till officials put out the fire and found the area around the signal safe for train operation. “We have not established the cause of fire still. Train service had to be suspended as the bushes were on life close to the track. Services were resumed after dousing the fire,” said an Railway Protection Force (RPF) officer requesting anonymity, claiming that only four electric multiple units (EMU) were suspended due to fire and services were restored in 30 minutes.
However, express train services were maintained unaffected on the stretch as the main express lines were a safe distance awayfrom the fire.
