    MTC bus crushes 18-year-old boy in MMDA colony

    An 18-year-old state-level chess player was run over by an MTC bus while he was out to withdraw cash from an ATM in MMDA colony, on Wednesday.

    A Alagu Sundaram, a resident of P block in MMDA colony, was a Class 12 student in a private school, and the accident took place barely 200 metres away from his house, said the police. The bus, allegedly sped away after running over the boy.


    The police said that around 8.15am, Alagu reached the post office near MMDA colony main road on a bike when a speeding MTC bus (route No: 15G) knocked him and ran over his head. He died on the spot and his body was taken to the Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination.


    The Anna Nagar traffic investigation police registered a case and launched the hunt for the bus driver. The police said that Alagu was neither wearing a helmet nor did he have the licence to drive a motorbike. His father Amuthan, whose hometown is in Karaikudi, runs a restaurant in MMDA Colony. He said that Alagu was a state-level chess champion and often travelled to Delhi and Kolkata to participate in competitions.


    Even though the Poonamalle high road is dotted with CCTV cameras, the traffic police said that they have been unable to track the bus. This is the third incident in 12 days in which a bus has been involved in a fatal accident.


    Student, man killed in road accidents

    In separate incidents on Wednesday, a college student and a 50-year-old man were died in road accidents. B Kishore (23), a resident of Devi Nagar in Kolathur and final-year BCom student, was riding his two-wheeler in Kolathur around 3 pm when a truck ahead of him suddenly took a turn towards Villivakkam at Cuddapah road-Villivakkam road junction. Unable to control his bike, Kishore rammed into the truck and fell off his bike. He was crushed under the rear wheels of the vehicle and died on the spot. TheMadhavaram police rushed to the spot and sent his body for post-mortem examination. A case was registered and the truck driver R Chandran (25) of Nagapattinam was arrested.


    In the second incident, a 50-year-old man identified as S Perumal from Venkatapuram died after he hit a Tata Sumo car from the back with his two-wheeler near Ambattur on Wednesday morning. The accident took place on the railway flyover in Pattaravakkam. The car allegedly had stopped in the middle of the flyover without any warning and Perumal who driving behind the car rode into it and fell off his bike. Passersby called an ambulance but he was declared him dead on spot. His body was sent to SRMC for an autopsy. The Poonamallee traffic police have registered a case and further investigation is under way.
