Chennai
The e-mail claimed that it was from the terrorist organisation ISIS. While the cybercrime wing of Central Crime Branch (CCB) is probing the case, police believe that it was a hoax.
The e-mail was reportedly sent to Elcot’s official mail address and also to couple of officials on Monday night, warning that the corporation’s office premises on Medavakkam-Sholinganallur main road would beblown up in seven hours. The threat mail, sent from agmail ID, said other Elcot offices, too, would be bombed in the coming days.
Following this, Semmanchery police was alerted immediately and a team from bomb detection and disposal squad and sniffer dogs were deployed. The personnel searched the premises for six hours, but found no bombas warned. Though the e-mail claimed that it was fromISIS, police suspect that it could have been the handiwork of someone else.
Though local police declared it as a hoax mail, the case was forwarded to cybercrime wing of CCB to locate the sender of the mail. Further investigation is on.
