Speech-impaired snatcher nabbed

C Jayalakshmi of Choolaimedu, who works at a private hospital in T Nagar, got down from an MTC bus around 12 pm on Sunday. When she was on North Usman Road-Habibullah Road Junction, a bike-borne man snatched her mobile phone and fled the spot. While police identified the suspect with the help of CCTV footage, they noticed the same bike in the locality during a patrol.

As the snatcher tried to flee, the police chased and arrested him. He was identified as I Prince Arokiya (22) of T Nagar. As he was speech impaired, his statement was recorded with the help of a professor before he was remanded in judicial custody on Monday.

Similarly, the Maduravoyal police arrested a mobile phone snatcher and seized five mobile phones from him. The accused, identified as M Arunkarthik (22) of Tiruverkadu, indulged in mobile phone snatchings in Nazarathpet and Poonamallee. While he was remanded in judicial custody on Tuesday, a hunt has been launched for his aide Ajith, said police sources.
