Police said that he was abducted and murdered.
The deceased person was identified as K Saravanan, a second-year mechanical engineering student of Sairam Engineering College and a resident of New Colony in Adambakkam.
When he left home on his bike at around 7 pm on January 22, Saravanan informed his parents that he was going to meet a few friends, said police. After waiting for him till 11 pm, his father Karthikeyan and mother Sankari grew concerned and tried calling him on his mobile phone. But it was found switched off. The parents searched for him till the next afternoon before filing a missing complaint with the Adambakkam police.
On Monday morning, personnel from Kayar police station in Kancheepuram found a body floating in the stone quarry in Keerapakkam. “It is a case of murder. The body was tied to a stone and then dumped there. Due to the stone, the police had some difficulty in taking the body out. It was later sent to Chengalpattu Government Medical College Hospital. There, Saravanan’s father identified the body as that of his son,” the police said.
Saravanan’s two-wheeler and mobile phone were missing. “It is possible that he was abducted and murdered by unidentified persons, who escaped with his bike and phone,” said police, who suspect that the youngster was murdered on the same night he left home.
The Adambakkam police, who are investigating the case, are trying to track the signal of Saravanan’s phone and its last location hoping to find some clue regarding the murder.
