Halt for 2 express trains at Ambattur
Fulfilling a long-pending demand of the people in western suburbs, the Southern Railway (SR) has announced stoppage of two express trains at Ambattur on an experimental basis.

Chennai Central – Jolarpettai Yelagiri Express (Train no 16089/16090) and Chennai Central - Tirupati Sapthagiri Express (Train no 16057/16058) will have temporary stoppage at Ambattur from January 28 to July 27.
Yelagiri Express leaving Chennai Central at 5.55 pm will arrive Ambattur at 6.18 pm and depart at 6.20 pm, while the return train (no 16090) leaving Jolarpettai at 4.55 am will arrive Ambattur at 8.35 am and depart at 8.36 am after a one-minute stoppage.
Sapthagiri Express leaving Chennai Central at 6.25 am will arrive at Ambattur at 6.43 am and depart at 6.45 am, while the return train (no 16058) leaving Tirupati at 6.05 pm will arrive Ambattur at 9.21 pm and depart at 9.23 pm.
Marginal rise in SR revenue
The zonal railway has recorded a marginal increase in passenger earnings in 2018, said its general manager R K Kulshrestha.
The passenger earnings till December stood at Rs 3,331 crore, an increase of 4.6 per cent compared to last year during RepublicDay function.
The passenger traffic too increased by 4.4 per cent to 630.66 million passengers (up toDecember).
The zone had operated 1,679 reserved special trains and 2,575 unreserved special trains during summer and festival seasons.
The special trains included 34 Velankanni specials, 18 Tamirabharani - Mahapuskaram specials, 33 Dussehra specials, 36 Deepavali specials.
