Car runs amok, hits woman in Triplicane

Police said that Mohammed Riyazudin (21) of Triplicane had taken his uncle’s car to meet his friends when the incident happened. Around 10.15 pm, he was trying to exit the parking space opposite Tamil Nadu Tourism Department office when he allegedly rammed another car parked nearby and then hit the woman, identified as Thahira Begum (39) of Ice House, said police. Passers-by rushed to the rescue of the woman and nabbed the youth, who was handed over to the police. During interrogation, police found that he did not have a valid licence. Further investigation is on.

A 30-year-old man was fatally knocked down by an MTC bus near Pammal on Saturday. The deceased was identified as Sathish of Perambur, who was travelling to Pallavaram on a two-wheeler when the accident took place. When he was near Rettai Pillaiyar Koil on the Kundrathur-Pallavaram Road, an MTC bus hit his vehicle from behind. Satish, who was thrown off from the bike, suffered grievous injuries and died on the spot. The Chromepet traffic investigation police arrived at the spot and sent the body to Chromepet Government Hospital for post-mortem examination. The police have detained the bus driver Maheshwaran (45) of Padappai for further inquiry.
