Teen held for MTC conductor’s murder
Nearly a week after an MTC conductor was found murdered in Porur, SRMC police have arrested a 19-year-old boy on Monday. The accused, V Anbumani of Porur, did not know that he was being hunted by the police in connection with the murder case until he was nabbed.

After the police managed to identify the suspect with the help of CCTV footage and secured him, he told the officers that he did not know that the man whom he attacked with a stone under the influence of alcohol had died.
After investigation, police said Anbumani killed Mathivanan (48) of Santhosh Nagar in Porur, an MTC conductor attached to Iyyapanthangal, in a drunken brawl on after the deceased allegedly spoke ill of the accused’s mother when they were drinking together. Police said Mathivanan was an alcoholic.
“Anbumani went to the Tasmac shop to buy beer last Monday night. But as it was not available, he decided to try other alcoholic drinks and met Mathivanan there. They were drinking together when it happened,” said police. Anbumani attacked Mathivanan with a stone. He was found dead with bleeding injuries in Porur on Pongal, the day after the incident.
The accused came to know about the death only on Monday after he was secured by police for murder. Anbumani was remanded in judicial custody.
