The injured was identified Prabhakar (31), a resident of Pudur village in Maduranthagam. He is working as a tailor. Prabhakar married Janaki (28) five years ago and the couple had no children. The police said that the couple had spent a lot of money on

    treatments.

Recently Prabhakar became friends with Babu (35) from Padalam, working as a driver. Babu told Prabhakar that he is a part-time astrologer and called the couple for the pooja on a full moon night.

He also told them that the ritual can be done only at a secluded area and took them to Thamaraithangal village on Saturday night.

The police said that Babu asked the couple to close their eyes and not open it till he finishes the pooja. Around 1 am, Babu took a huge stone and smashed it on Prabhakar’s head. After Prabhakar fell unconscious, he snatched Janaki’s 11-sovereign chain and fled the spot.

Janaki contacted her relatives over mobile phone and on information, the Chengalpattu Taluk police rushed to the spot. They admitted Prabhakar to Kancheepuram Government Hospital. He was later shifted to a city hospital. The police have registered a case and a search is on to nab Babu.
