    Six ’86 batch IPS officers promoted as DGPs

    Six senior IPS officers of the 1986 batch, currently in the rank of ADGP, have been promoted as Directors General of Police (DGPs) and posted in the same wing they are heading now. With the latest promotions, the number of DGPs in the state has gone up to 11.

    MS Jaffer Sait, who is the Project Officer of Tamil Nadu Police Academy has been promoted as DGP and posted in the same wing. The post of Srilakshmi Prasad, ADGP of Tangedco (Vigilance), has also been upgraded as DGP.

    Ashutosh Shukla, who is currently the Inspector General of Prisons, will continue in the post as DGP. Mithilesh Kumar Jha, who is currently with the Cabinet Secretariat in New Delhi, too, has been promoted as DGP under the Next Below Rule despite his deputation with the centre.

    N Tamil Selvan, who is heading the technical services wing, will continue in the post albeit as DGP. Ashish Bhengra who is heading the Operations team will function in the same post as DGP hereafter. Niranjan Mardi, Additional Chief Secretary, issued the order on Saturday to be followed with immediate effect.

    A week ago, the state government directed that the six IPS officers of 1986 batch in the ADGP rank be included on the panel of IPS officers fit for promotion as DGP, after they appealed to the government seeking promotion on the ground that their batchmates in other states were elevated ahead of them.

    So far, the State had five DGPs including the head of state police force TK Rajendran. KP Maghendhran of 1984 batch has been functioning as Director of Fire and Rescue Services, while Sangaram Jangid of 1985 batch is the Chief Vigilance Officer, Metropolitan Transport Corporation. CK Gandhirajan of 1985 batch is the DGP, State Human Rights Commission.
